BHSN Band Booster’s Meeting Minutes
14 September 2005
Meeting called to order at 6:35 PM
JoAnn Clune gave a treasurer’s report. No official budget for 2005 (yet). JoAnn wants to get money into interest bearing accounts. A Band Endowment committee is being formed. JABW will bring in nearly double last year’s profit once Sam’s contribution ($1000) has been collected. Adding the contribution expected from Rib Shack and we have overcome the loss of the Jazz festival profits.
Jan asked the board to review the new website and provide comments to Kent. Kent offered to put photos up if someone will send them to him. Jan also suggested a bulletin board could be helpful on the website for people who are looking to carpool, long-term wish list items for the band, etc.
Uniform purchase was discussed. Although there is money in reserve, much money will have to be raised for the uniform purchase. We have a database of former North students as one pool of people to draw on. The kickoff is planned to be in October and the campaign may last until next August. A committee was formed to head this up: Janis, Tom, Jan, and JoAnn.
Jan gave an update on the Rib Shack fundraiser. The first weekend was a little disorganized but overall it’s going well. Macri’s is another fundraiser coming up on Sep 21. 10 % donations plus cookies (all revenue goes to band) is the current deal. Decided that we would go ahead but next time we need a bigger cut.
JABW thank you letters to sponsors were distributed for review. “Jazz Under the Stars” update was that Deer Park Manor seemed to be the right location for the event. Julia Copeland and Jan are currently the committee for “Jazz Under the Stars”.
The winter festival was discussed. It will be smaller in scope than originally planned. Committee is: Ray Burke, Becky Connor, Marian Hunt, Ewa Balewski.
Jan discussed the idea of ‘Corporate Sponsorship’ vice corporate donations. The distinction makes a difference when trying to recruit corporations to sponsor events like Jazz Under the Stars. They expect things (signage, service, partronage) beyond a simpler transaction like selling an ad in the yearbook.
Discussion of next year’s marching band needs centered on vehicles required. We are currently using the Korn’s 4 wheeler and a borrowed tractor. We will not have access to the Korn;s vehicle next year and the tractor is on it’s last leg. Gary researched and found that a new tractor is $4000. Used golf carts can be had for $1000 but we have to store them if we own them. All were encouraged to keep looking this year for next year’s season.
